Police arrest 2 smugglers with 35 kg poppy straw in J&K's Ramban

Jammu, Apr 6 (Reporter) Police on Saturday foiled a bid to smuggle narcotics and arrested two persons with contraband poppy straw in Banihal tehsil of Ramban district in Jammu and Kashmir. Under operation "Sanjeevani" Police foiled a narcotics smuggling bid at Navyuga in Banihal and arrested two persons with 35 kgs of Poppy straw. A police party of Post Jawahar Tunnel while conducting routine checking at Navyuga tunnel, intercepted a truck which was on its way from Qazigund towards Jammu. On questioning, police said the driver disclosed his identity as Rocky Kumar, of Sarsoo, Dhandhal, tehsil Ramnagar, Udhampur, and co-driver as Shankar Singh, resident of Prowa Jagir, tehsil-Ramnagar, Udhampur. "During checking, poppy straw approximately 35 kilograms was recovered from the cabin of the vehicle," said police. A case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Banihal. The accused persons have been arrested and contraband seized, investigation of the case going on to prove backward and forward linkages.
