PM Modi, HM Amit Shah to visit Assam in August to unveil key projects

Guwahati, Aug 1 (Reporter) Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are likely to visit Assam by the end of this month and early next month, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced here today.Addressing a press conference he said the Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive on September 8 to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for several key projects. The Home Minister will be here on tAugust 29.  "On August 29, the Home Minister will inaugurate the new Raj Bhavan, which has been built on the banks of the Brahmaputra in Guwahati. In the afternoon, he will address the newly elected panchayat presidents and secretaries of the NDA alliance during the 'Panchayat Abhibartan' event," Sarma said. He added that the state government is planning to set up cooperative committees in each block, allowing unemployed youth to lease government land at minimal rent for agriculture and allied activities. "Since the Home Minister also holds the Cooperation portfolio, he will discuss this initiative with the panchayat representatives."  The Chief Minister said Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the 2G ethanol project at Numaligarh on September 8. This facility, built at an estimated cost of Rs 4,000 crore, will produce ethanol from bamboo. "The Prime Minister will also visit Mangaldai to lay the foundation stone of the Mangaldai Medical College. Later, he will return to Guwahati to lay the foundation stone for the Guwahati Ring Road Project, as well as a bridge between Narengi and Kuruwa."  In the evening, PM Modi will inaugurate the birth centenary celebrations of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika at Khanapara.
