New Delhi, Aug 23 (Reporter) The Congress on Friday accused Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot of acting as a “puppet” to destabilise the elected state government led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and said the grand old party will fight unitedly against it.
Congress general secretary in-charge of Karnataka Randeep Singh Surjewala, Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister and State Congress president D K Shivakumar in a joint press conference at the party headquarters here said that the Congress stands united with the Chief Minister and will fight together against the conspiracy of the BJP.
"The current political situation in Karnataka was discussed in detail. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM and KPCC President D K Shivakumar briefed the Congress President Kharge ji and LoP Rahul Gandhi on how a systematic and designed assault has been unleashed by the BJP and Janata Dal through the office of a puppet governor to destabilise the elected government,” a statement said.
The party alleged that the entire BJP including the Prime Minister and Home Minister were using the office of the Governor to attack the Congress government in the state.
"This is not an attempt to dislodge or destabilise the Congress Government of Karnataka but in truth, as the Chief Minister and Dy Chief Minister also said and we all in the AICC are aware of this is a sinister design to attack the five Congress guarantees. The BJP and the Janata Dal are scared of Congress guarantees and they somehow want these Congress guarantees to be stopped," Surjewala said.
He said that this was not an attack on the CM, Dy CM or on the Congress government but is an attack on the people of Karnataka by the Narendra Modi government.
"We will fight this battle to protect the Congress' guarantees," Surjewala said.
Meanwhile, Karnataka CM said that the decision taken by the Governor was illegal and unconstitutional.
Earlier, these leaders discussed the political situation in the state with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and party General Secretary KC Venugopal at the party headquarters.
It may be mentioned that the Governor had given permission to prosecute Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in a land-related case, due to which BJP has been demanding resignation from the Chief Minister...////...
