Srinagar, Feb 17 (Reporter) People’s Democratic Party (PDP), chief and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti said on Saturday the party will soon decide the candidates for the parliament seats.
The PDP announcement came days after National Conference President Farooq Abdullah said they would contest polls in J&K on its own strength. Abdullah’s statement created a political storm.
Hours after Abdullah's statement, his son and NC vice president, Omar Abdullah, said that of the six parliamentary seats of the erstwhile J&K, NC had won in three previous elections, and only those seats will be discussed for an alliance with the BJP. He made it clear that there will be no discussion on the three seats in the Valley as they are already with the India alliance.
However, this did not go well with the PDP, which is a constituent of the India alliance along with Congress.
The PDP made it clear today that the party is not going to agree with the NC's formula on seat sharing.
“PDP President and former Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, presided over an important meeting of the Central Kashmir parliamentary seat to discuss the preparations for the election. Mehbooba Mufti said that the parliamentary board will decide the candidates for parliament seats soon in an important meeting headed by Chairman Parliamentary Board Mohammad Sartaj Madni,” a PDP statement said...////...
