Pawar seeks SC directive to NCP factions to use symbols other than clock

New Delhi, Mar 11 (Reporter) The Sharad Pawar faction on Monday urged the Supreme Court to direct both factions of the National Congress Party (NCP) to use symbols other than clock. Appearing for Sharad Pawar, senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi told the court that the senior leader had created the whole organisation. "When people will come to vote they will choose the symbol of the clock thinking it is Sharad Pawar’s ", Singhvi said. Pawar had approached the apex court a few days back challenging the ECI's decision to give the clock symbol to the Ajit Pawar -led breakaway faction of NCP. A bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice KV Vishwanathan adjourned the hearing filed by the NCP leader Sharad Pawar-led faction on account of the requisite documents not being correctly placed before the court, the bench posted the matter for Thursday. The ECI had ruled that Ajit Pawar's faction was the real NCP and permitted the faction to use the 'clock' symbol for the party. In its order, ECI said the total number of NCP MLAs in the Maharashtra State assembly stood at 81, out of which, Ajit Pawar submitted affidavits of 57 MLAs in his support while Sharad Pawar had only 28 affidavits. Challenging the Election Commission's decision to grant the clock symbol to Ajit Pawar and recognise his group of MLAs as the real NCP, Sharad Pawar approached the apex court. Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar also recognised the Ajit Pawar–led faction as the real NCP and dismissed all disqualification petitions against both the Sharad Pawar faction and the Ajit Pawar faction...////...
