Paris, May 31 (Reporter) Italy's Jasmine Paolini eased into the fourth round of the French Open with a commanding 6-4, 6-1 victory over Ukraine’s Yuliia Starodubtseva in the third round on Saturday IST on Court Philippe-Chatrier.
The 12th seed was in complete control throughout the 70-minute encounter, dominating on both serve and return to advance without dropping a set. Paolini capitalised on all five break point opportunities she created, while Starodubtseva could only convert two of her three chances.
Despite neither player hitting an ace, it was Paolini’s superior consistency and precision that proved decisive. The Italian won 68 per cent of her first-serve points and 53 per cent on second serve, outshining her Ukrainian opponent, who managed 44 per cent and 50 per cent respectively.
Paolini also showcased her defensive prowess, winning 25 receiving points compared to Starodubtseva’s 19, and secured 12 games in total to her opponent's five. The Italian surged ahead in the second set, winning five games in a row to close out the match.
The win marks Paolini’s best run at Roland Garros, and she will now look to continue her strong form as she enters the second week of the tournament...////...
