Srinagar, May 17 (Reporter) Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday said that it was Pakistan that reached out to India for a ceasefire after a strong Indian military response between May 8 and 10. Addressing Army personnel after visiting the Tangdhar sector in Kupwara district to assess the damage caused by Pakistani shelling, Sinha praised the Indian Army for its bravery and effectiveness in preventing casualties during the recent hostilities. He said due to the Army’s valour, no deaths were reported, and only three persons sustained minor injuries. Referring to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Sinha said after the terror attack the government showed its unwavering commitment to combating terrorism and taking action against its perpetrators and supporters. Sinha said Pakistan had been clearly informed that only terrorist camps and related infrastructure would be targeted. He said after India’s firm response, Pakistan, fearing annihilation, appealed to the international community for intervention. “At 3:35 p.m. on May 10, the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of Pakistan contacted his Indian counterpart,” Sinha said. “India is not a nation that seeks war. We are the fifth-largest economy in the world and soon to be the fourth.” “Perhaps Pakistan has now realized that nothing is beyond India’s reach.” Earlier in the day, Sinha visited the Tangdhar sector to personally assess the extensive damage caused by the shelling, which severely impacted homes and commercial properties in the border area. Speaking to reporters after the visit, he said, “The shelling by the adversary has caused significant damage. I toured the area with senior administrative officers and witnessed the destruction firsthand.” He said he also interacted with local residents to understand their concerns. “I am grateful to the administration for remaining on the ground during these difficult times and ensuring that people did not face unnecessary hardships. They did their best under challenging circumstances,” he said. Sinha said that an assessment of the damage had been conducted, and immediate relief would be provided...////...
