Islamabad, Dec 12 (Reporter) A special court in Pakistan on Thursday formally indicted the country's former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana 2.0 case, local media said. Both Imran Khan, founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and Bushra Bibi appeared in court before Judge Shahrukh Arjumand, who conducted the hearing at Adiala Jail. The judge read the charges aloud to the defendants, marking the official start of the legal proceedings. The hearing was adjourned following the indictment, The Express Tribune reported. Imran is currently in Adiala Jail on multiple charges including an earlier Toshakhana case. The indictment of high-profile political figures, including Imran Khan and his inner circle, adds further complexity to the ongoing legal battles surrounding the PTI leadership. The cases are expected to shape the political landscape as Pakistan heads towards upcoming elections. The Toshakhana 2.0 case relates to a jewellery set designed by Italian luxury fashion house Bulgari (also called Bvlgari) which was given to Bushra Bibi when she accompanied then Prime Minister Imran Khan on a visit to Saudi Arabia from May 7 to 10, 2021. The jewelry set included a ring, a bracelet, a necklace and a pair of earrings. During the investigation for the reference, it was alleged that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi illegally retained the jewelry set, causing a loss of Rs 3,28,51,300 to the Toshakhana. Established in 1974, the Tosha­khana in Pakistan is a department under the administrative control of the Cabinet Division and stores precious gifts given to rulers, parliamentarians, bureaucrats, and officials by heads of other governments and states and foreign dignitaries.
