Islamabad, Apr 18 (Reporter) In an effort to break the logjam in bilateral ties, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is set to visit Kabul tomorrow, in the first foreign ministerial visit to Afghanistan since the Taliban came to power. The last time any Pakistani top diplomat travelled to the Afghan capital was in October 2021, a few months after the Taliban captured power in Kabul. Dar’s upcoming visit to Kabul comes at the invitation of Acting Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, according to the Pakistan Foreign Office (FO), following the latest round of the Pakistan-Afghanistan Joint Coordination Committee meeting in Kabul. Dar's visit comes as Islamabad is going ahead with a crackdown on Afghan refugees, forcing tens of thousands to return to Afghanistan. Islamabad has previously announced plans to deport more than 800,000 Afghans. “I will be visiting Kabul for a day to break this logjam which is there for the last few years,” Dar said in remarks quoted by local media. According to The Express Tribune, a Pakistani delegation led by Special envoy Muhammad Sadiq Khan, the Pakistan Ambassador to Afghanistan, was able to bring about a thaw in the increasingly hostile diplomatic ties between the two nations, and some breakthrough regarding the issue of border security between Islamabad and Kabul. This apparently marks the first time that the Afghan Taliban government has shown any willingness and seriousness to address Pakistan's concerns over the terrorist group, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). This development paved the way for Foreign Minister-level talks between Kabul and Islamabad. Confirming the positive developments in Pak-Afghan relations, Ambassador Sadiq Khan on Thursday wrote on his X (formerly Twitter): "In a welcome development, high-level bilateral engagements with Afghanistan have resumed after a long hiatus,” a day after visiting Kabul. "Pakistan, in consultation with Afghanistan, will now work to activate trilateral and multilateral mechanisms including: the Immediate Neighbours + Russia Format, Pakistan-China Trilateral, Pakistan-Uzbekistan Trilateral, and Pakistan-Iran Trilateral," he added. "In this context, I held a virtual meeting today with Mr. Yue Xiaoyong, China's Special Representative for Afghanistan, to explore reviving the trilateral process with Afghanistan and follow up on the previous agenda. The proposal will be discussed with the Afghan government shortly," he said. Regarding the visit, Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan said Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will "call on the Afghan Acting Prime Minister, meet (the) Afghan Acting Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, and hold delegation-level talks with (the) Acting Foreign Minister.” Following this, Dar is set to visit Dhaka on April 27 for a two-day visit...////...
