Pakistan Customs seize 15,000 mobile phones smuggled from China in truck

Islamabad, Sep 18 (Reporter) Pakistan Customs intercepted an effort to smuggle over 15,465 mobile phones, predominantly Androids, valued at Rs 446 million from China into Pakistan via the Khunjerab Pass border crossing, media reports said on Wednesday. The mobile phones and other things were confiscated, and a smuggling case was opened, the Dawn reported. According to the team's report, a total of 15,465 mobile phones were discovered after inspecting/checking the products seized from an unclaimed truck. The items included including 8,365 smartphones (iPhone, Oppo, Vivo, One-Plus, etc.) and 7,100 bar phones, as well as other non-duty-paid commodities. The market value of these items is estimated at Rs 446 million. According to a report submitted to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Pakistan Customs officials at the Sost Dry Port received information that a truck loaded with smuggled mobile phones and other valuable goods had crossed into Pakistan from China via the Khunjerab Pass border and was parked on the Karakoram Highway near Dehi in the Khunjerab Pass area, possibly waiting for goods to be offloaded at night.
