Srinagar, May 15 (Reporter) Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday said that Pakistan’s nuclear weapons should be taken under the supervision of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The Defence Minister was addressing the soldiers upon his arrival in Srinagar. “Pakistan has given nuclear threats to India several times. Today, from the land of Srinagar, I want to raise this question before the whole world: are nuclear weapons safe in the hands of such an irresponsible and rogue nation? I believe that Pakistan's nuclear weapons should be taken under the supervision of IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency)”, he added. “The whole world knows about India that we have always given priority to peace. We have never been a supporter of war. But when the situation demands, our forces are viewed with respect throughout the country,” Singh said. “A strong nation is one that respects its forces as well as provides them with modern weapons and equipment that they need. I am proud that today the government is doing everything for our forces,” he said. He said when the sovereignty of the country is attacked, then it becomes necessary to respond. He said for the last four decades, India has been facing terrorism being carried out by Pakistan. “Operation Sindoor was the biggest action taken by India against terrorism in history," he said. “By carrying out the Pahalgam attack, an attempt was made to hurt India's forehead and an attempt was made to break India's social unity”, the Defence Minister said. The Defence Minister arrived in Srinagar on Thursday, marking his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir since the launch of Operation Sindoor. The visit comes in the wake of a recently announced ceasefire between India and Pakistan on May 10, following days of intense cross-border skirmishes and artillery exchanges that resulted in several casualties and infrastructural damage along the Line of Control (LoC). Soon after his arrival, the Defence Minister visited the Army's 15 Corps Headquarters in Srinagar, where he interacted with Army personnel and was briefed on the prevailing security situation, officials said.
