Chennai, May 8(Reporter) The Civil Defence Mock Exercise as advised by the Union
Home Ministry of was held at Kamarajar Port Ltd., Ennore in Tiruvallur District and
Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd., Manali, Chennai on Thursday.
The drill was conducted for the second successive after the exercise at Chennai
Port and Kalpakkam Atomic Power stations yesterday.
Today,the drill was conducted from 1600 hrs to 1700 hrs.
A statement from the Tamil Nadu State Disaster Management Authority said
the mock drill simulated events to check the preparedness of the Civil Defence
System to handle an air raid and intrusion in the sea front in a war kind of
emergency.
During the Civil defence mock exercise protection, safe evacuation and first aid
were rehearsed.
The State emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), the District Emergency operation
centre (DEOC) at Tiruvallur District, the Integrated Command and Control Centre
at Greater Chennai Corporation, the local Control rooms at Kamarajar Port Limited
and Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited were activated.
The District Officials, State Commando Forces, Home Guards, Greater Chennai
Police, Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services, Tamil Nadu Disaster Response
Force, National Disaster Response Force, Indian Coast Guard, Central Industrial
Security Force and Medical teams participated in the exercise.
Meanwhile, the drill will be conducted at Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant in
the southern Tirunelveli district tomorrow.
The civil defence mock exercises were conducted yesterday and today, another
release said.
In continuation of this, it is proposed to conduct the civil defence mock exercise
tomorrow at Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant, Kudankulam, Tirunelveli District
and in Norh Chennai Thermal Power Station, Unit -2, Athipattu at 1600 hrs.
During this mock drill, activities will be undertaken in these two vital installations
to check the preparedness of the systems to handle any kind of emergency.
The State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) in the State has been activated
and will co-ordinate the exercise. The District Officials, State Commando Forces,
Home Guards, State Police Force, Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services, Tamil
Nadu Disaster Response Force, National Disaster Response Force, Central
Industrial Security Force, NCC Cadets, Bharat Scouts and Guides, NSS
Volunteers and Medical teams will participate in the mock exercise.
The civil defence exercise is only a mock drill to check the preparedness in the
selected vital installations.
All other functions in other places will go on normally.
There is no need for any panic or apprehension among the public about this
exercise...////...
