Hyderabad, Mar 9 (Reporter) Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy stated that the Padmasali community stands at the forefront, not only in self-respect but also in sacrifice.
Speaking at the All India Padmasali Mahasabha held at Nampally Exhibition Ground on Sunday, the Chief Minister highlighted the contributions of Konda Laxman Bapuji, who sacrificed his position for the realisation of Telangana state. He recalled that Bapuji even turned his own home into a platform for the Telangana movement.
Reddy criticised the previous government for failing to honour such a remarkable leader upon his demise, emphasising that the Padmasali community has not forgotten this incident. He also paid tribute to Tiger Ale Narendra, another prominent figure in the Telangana movement.
The Chief Minister accused former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) of betraying Narendra, stating, “When the Congress party made Narendra a Union Minister, KCR smothered him with a Dhritarashtra-like embrace.”
Reddy reaffirmed his government's commitment to the Padmasali community, promising justice and support at every opportunity. He announced that the Indian Institute of Handloom Technology has been established and named after Konda Laxman Bapuji.
Additionally, he declared that Asifabad Medical College would also be named in Bapuji’s honour, entrusting Minister Tummala Nageshwar Rao with this responsibility.
The Chief Minister outlined his government’s efforts to support weavers, revealing that an order worth Rs 600 crore has been placed for 1.3 crore sarees through women's self-help groups. “It is my duty to fulfill your requests. I have no other intention than to serve the community that has blessed me,” he affirmed.
Revanth Reddy also touched upon the caste census conducted by his government, following Rahul Gandhi’s directive. He claimed that the BRS and BJP oppose the census, fearing that a resolution in the Assembly would put pressure on the Modi government. “There is a conspiracy to suppress the rights of weaker sections,” he warned.
Challenging previous caste calculations, Reddy asserted, “KCR estimated upper castes at 21 percent, but in my calculation, they constitute only 15.28 percent. There is an attempt to deny BCs their rightful 42 percent reservation.” He urged the BC community to resist these conspiracies.
The Chief Minister also announced financial assistance of Rs 1 crore for the construction of a Markandeya building in Solapur to uphold the self-respect of the Padmasali community. He assured continued government support in economic, political, and employment aspects.
“I promise to stand by you as a brother, upholding your dignity and rights,” Reddy declared.
