Over 67 percent polling registered in Ladakh

Srinagar, May 20 (Reporter) Ladakh Parliamentary Constituency registered over 67 percent polling till 5 PM to decide the fate of three candidates in the fray. The polling for the lone Lok Sabha seat of the Union Territory of Ladakh begins at 7 AM in the morning on Monday, officials said. Kargil district registered 71.45 percent and Leh district registered 62.05 percent of voting till 1700 hours. As many as three candidates are contesting in Ladakh. They are Tashi Gyalson from BJP, Tsering Namgyal from Congress, and an independent candidate Haji Hanifa Jan, backed by rebels from the National Conference (NC) and Congress. Although the INDIA bloc alliance had designated the Ladakh seat to Congress, internal rebellion has undermined the agreement. The BJP won this seat in 2014 and 2019. In 2014, BJP candidate Thupstan Chhewang won in a four-way race. In 2019, BJP candidate Jamyang Tsering Namgayal won among four candidates, including Rigzin Spalbar from Congress and independents Sajjad Kargil and Haji Asgar Ali Karbalai from Kargil...////...
