Bhubaneswar, Mar 10 (Reporter) The Odisha Assembly witnessed an uproar as Opposition BJD members stalled proceedings over a controversial remark made by BJP MLA Jayanarayan Mishra, while Congress members protested against rising atrocities against women in the state. Both BJD and Congress members, carrying placards in their hands, trooped into the well of the House during the Question Hour and raised slogans. The chaos inside the House forced Speaker Surama Padhy to adjourn proceedings three times until 4 PM. As a result, the House was unable to transact business for the Question Hour, Zero Hour, and the adjournment motion. The first adjournment took place at 10:43 AM until 12:09 PM, followed by another from 12:22 PM to 1 PM, and finally from 1:10 PM to 4 PM. The House convened at 10:30 AM on Monday to take up the day's business, beginning with paying homage to former Minister and BJD leader Ananta Charan Das, who passed away on Sunday. Trouble began immediately after the House observed a one-minute silence in memory of the departed leader and moved on to the Question Hour. Agitated BJD and Congress members, holding placards, stormed into the well of the House, raising slogans and disrupting proceedings. Some members even attempted to climb onto the Speaker’s podium and tried to snatch away the microphone, but security staff intervened. The BJD strongly opposed a controversial statement made by BJP MLA Jayanarayan Mishra at an official function in Sambalpur on Saturday, accusing him of trying to divide Odisha by raising the Koshal state issue. They demanded a public apology from Mishra, who was absent from the House, and a statement from Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi regarding the remarks made by his party MLA. Congress MLAs, also carrying placards, raised slogans against the government over rising crimes against women in the state. On Monday, Congress held protest demonstrations outside District Collector offices across Odisha, condemning the increasing atrocities against women. Speaker Surama Padhy attempted to pacify the opposition members and urged them to return to their seats and allow the House to function. However, the opposition remained adamant, continuing their sloganeering and disrupting proceedings. Sensing the unmanageable situation, the Speaker adjourned the House at 10:43 AM until 12:09 PM. Following the adjournment, BJD and Congress members marched in a procession from the well of the House to the Assembly premises, staging a dharna in support of their demands. The BJD members sat in protest near the Madhu Babu statue, while Congress members held a dharna near the Gandhi statue. When the House reconvened at 12:09 PM, the pandemonium persisted as BJD and Congress members again rushed into the well, raising slogans. Amid the uproar, the Speaker adjourned the session once more at 12:22 PM until 1 PM. When the House resumed at 1 PM after the second adjournment, the opposition intensified their protests inside the well. During the chaos, Treasury Bench members Tankadhar Tripathy, Amar Nayak and Sarada pradhan criticized the BJD for raising the "Odia Asmita" (Odia identity) issue, but their voices were drowned out by opposition sloganeering. As commotion continued, the Speaker, finding no other way to restore order, adjourned the House again from 1:10 PM until 4 PM. Due to the opposition’s protests, discussions on the Question Hour, Zero Hour, and the adjournment motion were completely disrupted...////...
