Srinagar, Jan 12 (Reporter) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has voiced strong opposition to any potential proposal requiring passengers to change trains while travelling to and from Kashmir.
He emphasized that such a move would undermine the purpose of the line and render the substantial investment of thousands of crores ineffective.
"Just to remove any chance of any misunderstanding, while we understand the need to secure the train & the passengers who will travel using it, making passengers change trains will defeat the very purpose of the line and render the thousands of crores of investment pointless, " Omar said in a post on social media.
"Check the train/passengers in Katra or Jammu sure but no change of train will be supported by us. That said there is no concrete proposal & when there is we will give our inputs/suggestions, " he added.
The much-awaited train service between New Delhi and Srinagar is set to be launched this month. However, the reported decision to route all trains through the Katra requiring passengers to change trains, has sparked controversy...////...
