Srinagar, Aug 24 (Reporter) National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah on Sunday thanked Union Home Minister Amit Shah for acknowledging his party's manifesto but criticized him for selectively focusing on a single aspect.
The former J&K Chief Minister also said that Shah's statement ensured that the people read NC's manifesto widely.
"It's unfortunate that the Home Minister only noticed one paragraph of our manifesto and attributed things to us that aren't even mentioned in it, like changing place names in Jammu and Kashmir," Omar told reporters in Ganderbal.
"His (Shah’s) comments have forced everyone to read it. However, it's disappointing that he only focused on one paragraph", Omar said.
Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had criticized the INDIA alliance partners in Jammu and Kashmir, accusing the Congress of jeopardizing national unity and security by aligning with NC's controversial proposals.
When asked about Shah's comment that the NC-Congress alliance aims to expose buried bodies, Omar reiterated his gratitude for Shah reading the NC manifesto, saying, "It's a big achievement for a small party like NC to have the Home Minister discuss our manifesto."
On reports of banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) members deciding to participate in the elections as Independent candidates, Omar said democracy allows anyone to contest.
