Rameswaram, Apr 6 (Reporter) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said the iconic old Pamban
bridge was built by a Gujarati 100 years back and 100 years later the new bridge was inaugurated
by another Gujarati (and that's me).
Speaking after inaugurating the new bridge, he said this new Pamban bridge was India's first
vertical bridge that brings technology and tradition together.
Pointing out that the Pamban bridge was built by a Gujarati more than 100 years back, today
it was inaugurated by another Gujarati, (me), he said.
"A Gujarati was behind construction of Old Pamban rail bridge in 1914. Now after 100 years,
another Gujarati has opened the new Pamban rail bridge" Mr Modi said.
Mr Modi said the auspicious Ram Navami day also marked the Founding day of the BJP,
drawing loud cheers from the audience.
He said his government was taking all steps for the development and promotion of Tamil language
across the globe. “Efforts are on to take Tamil language, heritage to all corners of the world,” he
added.
Batting for offering medical courses in the local regional languages in all States, Mr Modi said the
Centre was taking steps in this regard, while appealing to the Tamil Nadu government to offer
medical courses in Tamil.
Speaking about the importance of Tamil language, the Prime Minister said all the letters received
by him from Tamil Nadu leaders are in English.
"Even the signatures are in English and not in Tamil. At least the signatures should be in Tamil", he
