Bhubaneswar, May 25 (Reporter) About 35.69 percent of 94.41 lakh electorates have exercised their franchise till 1 pm in the Six Lok Sabha and 42 Assembly seats, spread over 10 districts in Odisha.
ECI sources said a maximum 38.13 percent voters have cast their ballots in Sambalpur Lok Sabha Constituency followed by 37.26 percent in Puri, 36 percent in Dhenkanal ,35.63 percent in Keonjhar, 34.40 percent in Cuttack and 33.01 percent, the lowest, in Bhubaneswar Parliamentary constituency.
Among the 42 Assembly seats, Palallahara assembly Constituency recorded 43.76 percent, highest percentage till 1 PM, followed by 43.20 percent in Jayadev, 42.40 percent in Khandapada, 41 percent in Deogarh and 40.20 percent in Ghasipura assembly Constituency.
Out of 42 assembly seats, in six assembly constituencies, the voter turnout till 1300 hours was over 40 percent.
Odisha CEO Nikunja Bihari Dhal said so far 116 ballot boxes,125 controlling units and 256 VVPATs have been replaced.
He admitted that the voting in some polling booths were delayed due to technical snag in the EVMs but said they were rectified and polling was going on peacefully in these booths.
Out of 10,515 polling booths, at least 20 percent of polling booths are declared as critical booths while 2000 booths are model booths and 1500 booths are managed by women.
The CEO said the voters have been advised not to carry mobile phones to the polling booths.He appealed to voters, more particularly, the urban voters to come out in large numbers and exercise their democratic rights by casting ballots.
The Six Lok Sabha and 42 Assembly seats will seal the electoral fortunes of 447 candidates, including 43 women candidates.
Prominent among those whose fate will be decided today are Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, BJP spokesperson Dr.Sambit Patra, BJP sitting MP from Bhubaneswar Aparajita Sarangi, Bhartruhari Mahtab, who had quit BJD and joined BJP and seeking re-election from Cuttack Lok Sabha seat which he had won six times in the past.
From the ruling BJD, party’s Organizational secretary Pranab Prakash Das was pitted against Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in Sambalpur Lok Sabha seat, former Mumbai Commissioner Arup Pattnaik who is contesting Puri Lok Sabha seat and Santrupta Mishra, a debutant in the electoral politics, was pitted against six time MP Bhartruhari Mahatab in Cuttack Lok Sabha seat.
Saturday’s voting will also seal the fate of two council of ministers of Naveen Patnaik government, five former ministers, two veteran BJD leaders Prasanna Acharya and Debi Prasad Mishra ,several sitting MLAs from both the BJD and BJP besides, the turncoats from all the three major political parties.
