Odisha Congress seeks Naveen's apology for playing with devotees' sentiments

Bhubaneswar, Jan 15 (Reporter) Odisha Congress on Monday asked Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to tender apology before Lord Jagannath for playing with the sentiments of the devotees. Odisha Congress Campaign Committee Chairman Bijaya Patnaik told newspersons here that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has reduced the temple into a tourist spot. He said the Chief Minister will dedicate the Sri Mandir Parikrama Corridor on January 17 but before that he should go to the temple and beg an apology before Lord Jagannath for playing with the sentiments of the devotees. The bureaucrat turned politician accused the Chief Minister of committing sin of launching the Aparn rath across the state which moves from door to door seeking rice and betel nut for Lord jagannath This was shameful, the Congress leader said as Jagannath feeds people and never asked the people to give rice and betel nuts. He said only four toilets and the surrounding area of the Meghnad pacheri of the temple had been constructed under the Sri Mandir Parikrama Corridor project and there was no need to have a religious fanfare and Yajna for the purpose. He said earlier also the government had played with the sentiments of the Jagannath devotees by inviting beef eater Kamiya Jani who was taken to the 12th century shrine to promote Mahaprasad of the Lords.
