Dubai, Oct 4 (Reporter) In a stunning turnaround of form, New Zealand on Friday powered to a massive victory over India in the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, ending a 10-match losing streak in emphatic fashion. Opting to bat first, the Kiwis posted a formidable total of 160/4, thanks to a brilliant unbeaten 57 by captain Sophie Devine, who anchored her team after a solid start by openers Suzie Bates (27 in 24 balls) and Georgia Plimmer (34 in 23 balls). India, one of the tournament favourites, struggled from the outset, with their bowlers failing to contain New Zealand’s aggressive start during the powerplay. Bates and Plimmer set the tone early, capitalising on some loose deliveries and India’s lacklustre fielding. Though the Indian bowlers managed to pull things back by picking up a couple of key wickets, the Kiwi batswomen consolidated in the middle overs. Devine led from the front with her aggressive knock 57, guiding her team to a competitive score. India's response with the bat was shabby as they failed to gain any momentum, losing early wickets to New Zealand's disciplined bowling attack. Rosemary Mair's swing, Eden Carson's clever variations, and Lea Tahuhu's hard-hitting lengths kept India under pressure. Despite the Indian team’s efforts to rebuild, they could only muster a meagre 102 all out in 19 overs. India’s captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, who had previously hailed this team as the best in T20 World Cup history, admitted that they were not good enough on the day. The defeat leaves India in a precarious position in the tournament, facing an uphill battle in an already challenging group. For New Zealand, the victory provides a much-needed confidence boost as they seek to reignite their World Cup campaign after a poor run leading into the tournament. The Kiwis will now look to carry this momentum into their upcoming matches, while India will need to regroup and find their rhythm quickly if they are to stay in contention...////...
