New Delhi, Feb 20 (Reporter) The National Union of Journalists (NUJI) on Tuesday said that it will hold a protest march on Wednesday against the arrest of Republic Bangla reporter Santu Pan in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal.
The march will be organised from Jantar Mantar to Banga Bhawan in Delhi tomorrow, the NUJI said in a statement.
The NUJI and the Delhi Journalists Association held a meeting over the arrest of a Bangla journalist.
In the meeting, it was said that the media is being strangled by imposing an undeclared emergency in West Bengal, the NUJI said.
Demanding the immediate release of the journalist, the organizations have called on to allow journalists to work freely in the state.
NUJI President Ras Bihari said, “On one hand, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee has given free rein to criminals and on the other hand, journalists who expose hooliganism are being jailed.
“Media persons are being continuously attacked by supporters of the ruling party Trinamool Congress in Bengal,” he said adding that a three-member delegation of NUJI will visit West Bengal and prepare a detailed report on the attacks and harassment on journalists and submit it to the Central Government.
