Lucknow, July 30 (Reporter) The Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Tuesday passed the UP Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion (Amendment) Bill-2024 along with the UP Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill-2024 which entails provision of life imprisonment for 'Love Jihad' and 'Paper Leak'.
As per the provisions of the UP Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion (Amendment) Bill-2024 passed by the state assembly those indulging in love jihad will now be punished with life imprisonment. This bill was introduced on Monday.
The UP government had earlier passed the Prohibition of Religious Conversion Bill 2021 in the assembly. This bill has been amended and made very strong in terms of punishment and penalty.
In this, while the punishment in the already defined crimes has been increased up to double, new crimes have also been included. Under the new provisions, now there will be 3 to 10 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 25,000 for converting and marrying by deception, fraud, coaxing.
Earlier, the punishment was one to five years in jail and a fine of Rs 15,000. Now there is a provision of five to 14 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh for crime against minors (SC-ST) and 7 to 14 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh for illegal mass conversion.
The Yogi government has taken another important step to conduct examinations in UP in a transparent and fair manner. The UP Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill-2024 was passed in the Assembly on Tuesday to prevent unfair means and paper leak in public examinations.
Under the new law, the Yogi government will also crack down on the copy mafia. Now the strictest action can be taken against the members of the gang involved in cheating and paper leak in the examination.
In these, provision has been made for punishment ranging from a minimum of two years to life imprisonment. A fine of up to one crore rupees has been included in this. It may be noted that the Yogi government has already taken strict steps on cases like paper leak and now the passing of this bill is being considered another big step in this sequence.
