Mumbai, Mar 11 (Reporter) Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar announced in the Maharashtra Assembly on Tuesday that if a beer or liquor shop is to be opened in the commercial premises of housing societies in the state, a 'No Objection Certificate' (NOC) from the concerned society will henceforth be mandatory, announced state.
No new beer or liquor shop can be opened in the state without an NoC from the society, he said while replying to the issue of law and order being created due to beer and liquor shops in housing societies in the state raised by MLAs Mahesh Landge, Advocate Rahul Kul and other members through a calling attention motion.
Meanwhile, Pawar's announcement will help in keeping the environment in housing societies free from conflict, preventing the youth from turning towards addiction and improving law and order.
The Deputy CM clarified that if liquor shops are to be closed in the municipal ward, the decision will be taken on the direction of 75 percent of total votes cast on the proposal that is made as per the rules.
While replying to important issues raised by former minister Sudhir Mungantiwar during discussion, Pawar said that the role of the government is not to increase the sale of liquor in the state but to strictly implement the prohibition rules.
The sale of liquor licence has been stopped in the state for many decades. Liquor shops are not allowed near the educational institutions.
There is a law to close liquor shops through voting if there is opposition from the locals. To bring more clarity in this, the decision to open or close liquor shops will be taken after taking into account which side has 75 percent of the total votes cast in the municipal wards, he added...////...
