Nitish welcomes announcement of Bharat Ratna awards for Narasimha Rao & two others

Patna, Feb 9 (Reporter) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday welcomed the decision of the Centre to confer with Bharat Ratna awards posthumously to former Prime Ministers P V Narsimha Rao, Charan Singh and eminent Agricultural scientist M S Swaminathan. Kumar expressed his happiness over decision of the Centre to felicitate posthumously with Bharat Ratna award to former Prime Minister Charan Singh saying he had worked hard for social justice in the country. Singh was one of the greatest leaders of socialist movement, he noted. " Charan Singh was totally dedicated to the cause of farmers and their welfare", the Chief Minister pointed out. It was heartening to note that the great socialist leader was being felicitated with highest civilian award of the country, he added. Kumar while welcoming the decision to honour former PM Narshimha Rao with Bharat Ratna award, said he had laid foundation stone of economic reforms in the country. Reforms initiated by Rao had paved the way for economic growth of the country, the CM said. Nitish also expressed his happiness over decision of the Centre to felicitate the Renowned Scientist Swaminathan, saying he was pioneer of green revolution of the country.
