Dindigul, Mar 1 (Reporter) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) unit of Tamil Nadu police has begun an investigation into an explosion, leaving two police personnel and a forest department official injured in a private estate near the 17th bend on Sirumalai ghat road in Dindigul district. Police sources said here on Saturday that following a complaint from the locals that a foul smell emanating from the estate, a joint team comprising police and forest department went to the site and found a decomposed body on Friday. Explosives, including detonators, batteries and wires were found near the body, which was later identified as Shibu John (59), a native of Kottayam in Kerala. Two police men and a forest official suffered minor injuries in an explosion of batteries when they attempted to recover the explosive materials from the spot. The injured were treated at Government Medical College Hospital at Dindigul. Dindigul Superintendent of Police A.Pradeep rushed to the spot and held an investigation. Police investigation revealed that Shibu John had been leasing the mango orchard in the estate. He had travelled to Sirumalai from Kottayam a month ago and had not been reachable on his mobile phone for a week by his family members. Following the recovery of explosive materials, the NIA and Tamil Nadu ATS police began probing the case on Maoist nexus angle.
