New Delhi, June 4 (Reporter) With results of the Lok Sabha coming in, almost all major exit polls have proven wrong putting a question on the credibility of polling agencies.
The exit polls published by nearly a dozen of agencies in collaboration with media houses went completely off the mark. This shows that they failed to feel the mood of the voters.
As against estimates of BJP-led NDA crossing 400-mark in the 543-member Lok Sabha by some pollsters, the ruling alliance could secure a score of below 300 in actual result.
Proven wrong over his post-poll survey, Axis My India Chairman and Managing Director Pradeep Gupta even broke down on live TV. He was consoled by the anchors as he was seen wiping his tears.
Axis My India had projected landslide victory for the NDA with the grouping expected to win 361-401 seats in the Lok Sabha election. The agency predicted 131-166 seats for the opposition grouping INDIA.
As against this, the NDA's tally was sub-300 (seats either won or headed for victory) while INDIA bloc's seats crossed 230-mark as of 9 PM.
BJP on its own were leading or had already won 240 seats as against Axis My India's prediction of 322 to 340 seats.
The ABP-C Voter exit poll also predicted a similar scenario estimating the NDA's likely tally at 353-383 seats. Today's Chanakya had said that the NDA could win 400 seats. All these numbers have now fallen flat.
Most pollsters had predicted a massive gain for the BJP in the politically crucial state of Uttar Pradesh. However, the actual numbers are way below the estimate with Samajwadi Party and Congress together seen winning over 43 seats. With leads on 33 seats, BJP stood number 2 in the key Hindi heartland state.
In West Bengal also, the exit polls failed to present the correct picture. Similar was the case in Maharashtra where INDIA alliance was headed towards winning over 29 seats while NDA had to contend with 18 seats...////...
