New Delhi, Dec 30 (Reporter) Taking suo motu cognizance of the recent sexual assault case at Anna University, Chennai, a committee appointed by the National Commission for Women (NCW) inspected the university’s security infrastructure and safety measures on Monday to identify potential lapses that may have contributed to the incident.
During the visit, the panel, comprising NCW Member Mamta Kumari and retired IPS officer and former DGP of Maharashtra Praveen Dixit, undertook a series of actions to ensure a thorough review of the incident and the ongoing investigation.
“The committee met with the victim and her relatives to understand the details of the incident and provide necessary support,” the NCW said.
The committee visited the place of the incident to assess the situation firsthand.
A meeting was held with the Governor of Tamil Nadu to discuss the matter further. Additionally, the committee interacted with the Home Secretary, the Director General of Police (DGP), and the Chennai Commissioner of Police to review the progress of the investigation and ensure appropriate action.
The committee also met a Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the Chennai High Court, which included three Women IPS Officers involved in the investigation.
As Anna University currently has no Vice-Chancellor, the committee consulted the senior official serving as the Member Secretary of the university's core committee.
The committee also held discussions with the Investigating Officer and the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) to evaluate the progress of the investigation.
