Mumbai, Mar 15 (Reporter) NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule on Saturday strongly criticised the BJP alliance government in the state over its decision to introduce 'Maharashtra Special Public Safety Act, 2024' bill, saying that it has decided to bring in a new bill to trample on the fundamental rights of citizens.
Through this bill, the right of the common people to speak against the government will be taken away, she alleged through a post on social media.
She said that in a truly healthy democracy, views of the opposition are respected and considered important.
The Opposition raises its voice to ensure that the government does not become unbridled and that they respect public opinion, she said.
But in the 'Maharashtra Special Public Safety Act' bill, it seems that the government agencies have been given unlimited powers, the NCP (SP) MP informed.
Through this, the government will get a licence to establish 'police raj' and this can be misused against
individuals, institutions or organisations who are against the government but express constructive opposition through democratic means, she said while expressing her apprehension.
The concept of 'We, the people of India' will also be defeated due to this bill, she said.
Continuing her criticism of the bill, Ms Sule further said, "Since the administration will be given unbridled powers, any person can be harassed and persecuted simply out of revenge.
Criticising the policies and decisions of the government or peacefully protesting or taking out a march aginst it can be considered an illegal act, she said.
The constitutionally guaranteed fundamental rights of citizens will be directly violated and this bill does not respect the principles of ideological diversity in this country, she noted.
"Additionally, the government will also get the right to interfere in the judicial process in some cases through this bill. Through this, the sovereignty of the judiciary will also be attacked," Ms Sule alleged...////...
