New Delhi, Dec 28 (Reporter) India's Davis Cup 2025 World Group I play-off against Togo will take place on February 1-2 in New Delhi without the country’s top-ranked singles player, Sumit Nagal.
Ranked world No. 98, Nagal opted out after reportedly failing to respond to a call for availability.
Nagal had earlier withdrawn from the Davis Cup 2024 World Group I tie against Sweden, citing a back strain, and missed the January-February playoff against Pakistan due to concerns over Islamabad’s grass courts not suiting his game.
Yuki Bhambri, India’s highest-ranked doubles player (world No. 48), has also declared his unavailability for the Togo tie.
The Indian squad features Sasikumar Mukund, ranked world No. 368, returning after his suspension was lifted. Mukund will lead the singles lineup, joined by Ramkumar Ramanathan (world No. 393) and Karan Singh (world No. 473).
In doubles, N Sriram Balaji (world No. 65) will pair with newcomer Rithvik Bollipalli, ranked 72nd in doubles. Bollipalli’s maiden call-up adds depth to India’s doubles roster.
Reserve players for the squad will be finalised following a training camp featuring Aryan Shah, Manas Dhamne, Dakshineshwar Suresh, and Yuvan Nandal.
Victory in the play-off will enable India retain its position in World Group I...////...
