Bengaluru, Sep 6 (Reporter) At the M Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Friday, India B seized control of the match as Musheer Khan’s stellar 181 propelled them to a formidable first-innings total of 321, putting India A on the defensive at the end of Day 2 of the Duleep Trophy.
Musheer's innings, marked by elegant stroke play and tenacity, was the highlight of the day, with his resilience helping India B recover from a precarious 94/7. His partnership of 205 runs with Navdeep Saini for the eighth wicket was pivotal, as Saini also contributed a gritty 56.
Saini then carried his form into the bowling attack, delivering two crucial blows by dismissing Shubman Gill (25) and Mayank Agarwal (36), who had looked promising before falling prey to Saini's sharp bowling. This left India A trailing by 187 runs, with the scoreboard reading 134/2 at stumps. KL Rahul and Riyan Parag, currently unbeaten on 23 and 27 respectively, will look to mount a fightback when play resumes.
Rahul's innings was marked by early struggles, including a dropped chance that could have changed the course of the match. However, he has managed to hold his ground alongside Parag, whose fluency and confidence have been a counterpoint to Rahul's cautious approach. The day also saw drama with Nitish Reddy receiving a second warning for running into the danger area, adding tension to an already charged atmosphere.
India B's dominance began in the morning session, with Musheer Khan's display of shot-making under pressure setting the tone. Musheer overturned two umpiring decisions using DRS, showing a sharp cricketing mind along with his batting skills. Saini’s contributions with both bat and ball have further tilted the scales in India B's favor, making him the day's standout performer alongside Musheer.
India A now faces a crucial task of narrowing the deficit and finding a way back into the contest. With the match finely poised, the next day promises an intense battle as India A strives to bridge the gap and shift the momentum.
