Srinagar, Oct 18 (Reporter) Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday appointed senior National Conference leader and MLA, Mubarak Gul, as the pro-tem speaker of the newly elected Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.
Gul, who won the Eidgah constituency, will administer the oath to all MLAs at the Legislative Assembly complex in Srinagar on October 21.
“The Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor, in pursuance to Section 24 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019 appointed Mr. Mubarik Gul, Hon'ble Member Legislative Assembly as Speaker Protem before whom all the Members of the J&K Legislative Assembly shall make and subscribe the oath/ affirmation in terms of Section 24 of aforesaid Act," as official order read.
It said the oath, affirmation will be administered by him in the J&K Legislative Assembly, Srinagar on October, 21 at 2 P.M.
"All the Hon'ble Members of the J&K Legislative Assembly are accordingly requested to kindly make it convenient to attend the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly for making and subscribing the oath/affirmation on the scheduled date and time,” the order added.
Gul was elected for the sixth successive term early this month in the Assembly election from Eidgah constituency in Srinagar district. Born in 1952, Gul is a law graduate and was elected to the J&K Assembly in 1983, 1986, 2002, 2008, and 2014. In 1987, he was elected member of J&K Legislative Counsel.
