MP shuts down interstate checkposts

Bhopal, July 1 (Reporter) The Madhya Pradesh government on Monday decided to shutdown its interstate border checkposts following complaints by truck drivers of extortion by officials. According to official sources, "The earlier checkposts will be replaced by the Road Safety and Enforcement Checking Points which will function under strict surveillance closely monitored by the Transport Department. "In the initial phase, 45 such points will be set up. Homeguards working with the District Transport Office will be posted at these points." The move came after years of corruption allegations against over three dozen transport checkposts along the interstate borders. Complaints against truck drivers illegally collecting rations have also increased, prompting the Mohan Yadav government to take the decisive action. The chief minister announced the closure of checkposts, and the transport department issued a formal order.
