More heatwave awaits Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh

Chandigarh, May 22 (Reporter) Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh are unlikely to get any respite from severe heatwave conditions till May 26 when temperatures can touch 47 degrees Celsius at a few places, the weather office said. Dry weather spell is likely to continue over all three regions over the next four to five days till next week. An India Meteorological Department (IMD) spokesman said Wednesday that the high maximum temperatures are prevailing over parts of southern and western Punjab and Haryana with maximum temperatures nearing 45-46 degrees Celsius. Whereas maximum temperatures over northern regions including Chandigarh are about 42-44 degrees Celsius. He said no large change in maximum temperature is likely during the next 24 hours, and gradual rise thereafter by about 2-3 degrees Celsius is expected. Maximum Temperatures over parts of southern and western Haryana and Punjab are very likely to be around 45-46 degrees Celsius during the next four to five days. Similarly, temperatures over the northern parts of Haryana and Punjab including Chandigarh are expected to range from 42-44 degrees Celsius. He also said this will lead to continuation of prevailing heat wave to severe heat wave conditions over Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh from May 22 to 26. Severe heatwave conditions are very likely at few places over southern and western parts of Haryana and Punjab during this period when maximum temperature could reach 46-47 degree Celsius at some pockets.
