Islamabad, Aug 31 (Reporter) Around two dozen people were killed as heavy monsoon rains inflicted broad havoc across the country, with coastal towns waiting for the onslaught of a rare August cyclone, media reports said.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), cyclone Asna poses no direct threat to coastal areas, but it is expected to cause strong winds and moderate to heavy rainfall in numerous Sindh and Balochistan cities between Friday and Saturday.
In the north, 13 members of a family died when their home's roof collapsed due to a landslip caused by heavy rains in Upper Dir.
Locals say the victims were in their home in Ramyal hamlet when the landslide struck early Friday.
The fatalities were siblings and relatives, as the families of three brothers, including the house's owner, Naushad Khan, lived together.
Those killed included Khan's wife, two daughters, and two sons; Khan Badshah's wife, his daughter, and two sons; and Wali Rahman's wife, his daughter, and one son.
In Sindh, at least nine individuals died in rain-related incidents in Jamshoro, Dadu, and Mirpurkhas districts.
More than 30 people were injured as the downpour ruptured sewers, breached dykes, and swept away countless mud homes.
A man and his sister were killed in Toba Tek Singh hamlet, while three members of a family were injured after being crushed under their houses' roofs, which fell after severe rain in the area.
In Balochistan, flash floods killed 13 people in Loralai, Qila Saifullah, Duki, Harnai, and Jhal Magsi.
According to officials, seven members of a family were swept away in Loralai but were rescued five hours later.
In the Alanbar district of Duki, five people were carried away while crossing a seasonal creek. Four of them were rescued, and one is still missing. One individual was also reported missing in Jhal Magsi after drowning in floodwaters...////...
