Srinagar, Mar 29 (Reporter) A day after placing him under the ‘house arrest’, Hurriyat Chairman and Kashmir’s Chief Cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday urged the Jammu and Kashmir government to desist from pursuing a "cycle of unexplained detentions". He also called for religious freedom during the holy month of Ramazan. Addressing people at the Friday congregation in Jamia Masjid, Mirwaiz lamented that even in the holy month of Ramzan which is a time of spiritual significance when the faithful look forward to guidance and religious sermons to enrich their faith and practice, he is not allowed unimpeded access to Masjids and is repeatedly put under house arrest. “Yesterday as per the announced program, I was not allowed to address the religious gathering at Aali Masjid. Such actions also curtail the fundamental freedoms of expression and religion,” he said. The Hurriyat Chairman asked the authorities to desist from pursuing this cycle of unexplained detentions, and allow him to continue his religious work. Mirwaiz stressed that Ramazan calls not only to spiritual worship but also to extend financial support to those in need within the community, through Zakat and charitable donations...////...
