Imphal, July 22 (Reporter) Security forces in Manipur have been conducting intensive search operations and area domination exercises across vulnerable and fringe areas in multiple districts. These efforts have led to significant recoveries of arms and ammunition, as well as the arrest of rebel cadres and individuals involved in criminal activities.
Police today said two major operations were carried out in Kangpokpi district. The first took place in the general area of Tingkai Khullen village under New Keithelmanbi Police Station, and the second was conducted in the vicinity of Maohing and Changoubung villages under Kangpokpi Police Station. During these operations, security forces recovered a substantial cache of arms and ammunition.
Among the weapons recovered were one INSAS rifle with a magazine, one .303 rifle fitted with a telescopic sight and magazine, one locally made lathode, one .32 pistol with magazine, four locally made bolt-action rifles, two canon pumpis, one M16 rifle, one MA1 assault rifle, one sniper rifle, another .32 bore pistol, seven single-barrel rifles, four additional bolt-action rifles, six pull-mechanism rifles, two improvised mortars, and four tube launchers.
Ammunition seized from the sites included fifty rounds of .303 ammunition, two lathode shells, ten rounds of 12 mm ammunition used in bolt-action rifles, two pumpi shells, one 84mm rocket launcher high-explosive round, sixty-one blank rounds for 7.62 mm AK rifles, seven single-barrel blank rounds, and twenty-three blank rounds for 7.62 mm SLR rifles.
Explosives recovered included four hand grenades. In addition, security personnel seized various military-related items such as two Baofeng wireless sets, two body protection (BP) plates, two handheld radio sets, two arming rings for No. 36 hand grenades, four detonators for No. 36 hand grenades, one sniper rifle magazine, and one magazine for a .32 bore pistol.
In a separate incident, three active cadres of a group were arrested near the Indo-Myanmar border at Border Pillar 79 (Pangal Basti), under Moreh Police Station in Tengnoupal district.
Meanwhile, Manipur Police arrested two individuals in connection with a sexual assault case registered under the POCSO Act. The incident occurred on July 20 in Imphal East district.
In another operation aimed at cracking down on illegal liquor trade, police seized a quantity of Indian-made foreign liquor and beer from Mantripukhri Bazar under Heingang Police Station, also in Imphal East district...////...
