New Delhi, July 5 (Reporter) In a shocking event for Pakistan’s IT corridors, Microsoft shuts down its 25-year-long operations in Pakistan. The tech major started its Pak operations in 2000, which began with ambitions of digital transformation and tech-friendly collaboration. The news came just after Microsoft's announcement of layoffs of its 9,000 employees this week. Microsoft played a major role in developing the Pak IT sector in these 25 years by implementing enterprise solutions across diverse industries, collaborating with the government on different e-governance projects, and overseeing the capacity-building programme for the country. Microsoft made a quiet move, and the announcement came from Jawwad Rehman (founding country manager of Microsoft Pakistan) in his LinkedIn post. Rehman played a critical role in establishing Microsoft's presence in Pakistan. He also highlighted the challenges faced by businesses dealing with the current situation in Pakistan. The Microsoft move came amid Pakistan's facing a severe economic situation. In a post on X, former president Dr. Arif Alvi expressed his disappointment over Microsoft's decision regarding the closure of operations.
