Srinagar, Apr 4 (Reporter) Peoples Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Jammu and Kashmir government, accusing it of "cowardice" and failing to address real issues facing the people despite a strong public mandate.
Mehbooba said people had pinned hopes on the new government to protect their rights, resolve unemployment, and address injustices.
“People had hoped that the new government would protect the rights that were looted. But it’s been six months and nothing has changed,” she told reporters in Srinagar.
She highlighted that youth languishing in jails, terminated employees, and daily wagers in distress continue to be ignored.
Taking a direct dig at Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, she said, “People were terminated from his department, and he remained silent. Today, MLAs are gathering not to talk about jailed youth or unemployment, but for the transfer of a Patwaris. Is this why people voted for them?”
The former CM said the government, instead of confronting or even constructively engaging with the Centre, has “already surrendered”.
“No one asked you to fight Delhi, but you’ve raised the white flag even before speaking up for your people,” she remarked.
She also took a dig at the ruling alliance partner meeting amid the row of transfers of officers.
“To call such a big meeting to discuss transfers, when people are suffering every day, is nothing short of a joke with the people’s mandate,” she said...////...
