Srinagar, July 20 (Reporter) Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and President of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wants to destroy the Constitution of India. She was reacting to Uttar Pradesh police's order asking all eateries, shops and food carts along the Kanwar Yatra route to display their owners’ names. The directive has been criticized by opposition parties and some members of the ruling alliance, who say it targets Muslim traders. “ It is now evident that BJP undermines the Constitution which enshrines equal rights for all citizens and does not discriminate against anyone on the basis of religion or name ...They (BJP) are violating the Constitution,” Mufti told reporters after former legislator Khurshid Alam, rejoined PDP. She said the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was correct in saying that if BJP secures over 400 seats, they will dismantle the Constitution. “They (BJP) haven't learned their lesson despite their seat count has gone down from 350 to 240," she said. Mufti said such directives can lead to national unrest. “I think the people who voted for them in this election must have got the hint that they want to destroy the Constitution at any cost. First they want to end the rights of Muslims, then Dalits will be targeted and later Backward Classes as they (BJP) want to create a new system.. And what they have done in UP is against the Constitution of India," she said. Mufti said while people were raising their voice against this directive, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi was silent over this issue. “Only Modiji is silent on this. He should speak about it if he is in favour or against it,” she said. Earlier, Khurshid Alam rejoined the PDP, a week after resigning from the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference.
