Shillong, Oct 18 (Reporter) The Meghalaya Cabinet has decided to put in place a budgetary scheme to initiate the implementation of the Meghalaya Residents Safety & Security Act (MRSSA).
MRSSA is to enhanced security vetting of the tenants and to ensure the safety and security of citizens of the State.
The scheme entails financial provisions for Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to avail budgetary allocations so that the work and monitoring of MRSSA can begin without delay, Law Minister
Dr. Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh told reporters on Friday after the cabinet meeting.
A Revolving Fund of a minimum of Rs 2 Lakhs will be given per district, the amount will increase for districts that require more funding due to the existence of authorities like the Dorbar Shnong to support the District Task Force’s activities under MRSSA.
“This is the first time we are instituting such a scheme. You cannot have monitoring of MRSSA without a scheme in place. Hence, the government has corrected this by allotting a new scheme under the MRSSA Act,” she said.
