New Delhi, Aug 9 (Reporter) The Supreme Court on Friday adjourned the hearing on a plea related to Mathura’s Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah Masjid dispute till November 18.
A bench comprising Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar re-listed the matter to November 18 on the plea challenging a 2023 order whereby the Allahabad High Court transferred to itself civil suits pending on the dispute in Mathura.
The High Court had on August 1 rejected a plea challenging the maintainability of 18 cases related to the temple-mosque dispute in Mathura, and ruled that the 'religious character' of Shahi Idgah needs to be determined.
Senior Advocate Tasneem Ahmadi, appearing for the Mosque Committee, requested the court that the interim order passed by the Supreme Court earlier asking to maintain status quo may be continued.
Advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain, representing Hindu worshippers, pleaded that the matter has become infructuous as the High Court had dismissed applications challenging maintainability of suits.
Justice Khanna said, “No, that order has to be seen. We need some time to go through it” and directed that the status quo to continue...////...
