Chandigarh, Feb 29 (Reporter) The Shiromani Akali Dal on Thursday dared Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to register a case to substantiate his allegations that SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal was involved in any irregularities relating to a hotel in Mohali district.
SAD Chief Spokesman Arshdeep Singh Kler accused Mann of "uttering malicious lies" and demanded an apology, failing which the chief minister should be ready to face another defamation suit.
Kler's remarks followed Mann's accusations against Badal of playing a role in amending the state government's eco-tourism policy to facilitate the construction of the hotel on forest land owned by the influential family.
Earlier, speaking to reporters, Mann claimed that in 1985-86 when the Badal family bought land in Palanpur village, It was a forest area, so no construction work was allowed. Mann alleged that later the eco-tourism policy was amended so that a hotel could be built there. Along with this, many other modifications were also made for their(the Badals') benefit,
Kler alleged that the "false" accusations were levelled by the CM against Sukhbir Badal concerning the hotel only to "divert" public attention from the zero FIR registered in the case involving the killing of youth farmer Shubh Karan Sngh's death during the recent farmers' agitation.
Asserting that this was not the first time the CM had indulged in such diversionary tactics when cornered, he said “Earlier Mr Mann had held a similar press conference to accuse former Chief Minister Charanjit Channi of taking a bribe of Rs 2 crore from a Sportsman but failed to register
a case in the matter”.
He said the CM had on various occasions claimed that gangster Goldy Brar had been arrested and even said that automobile maker BMW was setting up a car plant in Punjab.
“Such falsities were uttered brazenly to divert attention from burning issues as has been done today”, Kler asserted.
Asking the CM what his helplessness was and why he had not ordered the registration of a case into the allegations made by him, he said “The Vigilance department is with the CM. Why has he not proceeded in this matter since the last two years”?
Kler said, “a detailed rejoinder based on the facts in the case will be given tomorrow”...////...
