The attacks may occur anywhere and there is need for precaution and children should not be sent to schools and colleges. He alleged that some forces were supporting the militants and questioned the failure of central forces who are stationed in the areas from where militants were launching missiles on the civilians. It seems that the government is planning to wipe out the populace to form a Chin state, he alleged. An ambulance used by the militants to target Meitei villagers was seen at the Leimakhong military headquarter, he said. The Manipur government has announced closure of all educational institutes on Saturday. Taragi Cheisu, a body formed by intellectuals from all walks of life of Manipur condemned the repeated attacks on the civilians. Chairperson of the organisation, Khaidem Mani addressing the media here said targeting and killing common citizens including women, children and senior citizens by firing sophisticated weapons is an act of terrorism. He said such inhumane act against humanity should not be repeated. He further asked ten Kuki MLAs including two Cabinet Ministers who have openly supported the militants to stop backing the ultras. Organisation co-chairperson RK Nimai said the weapons used by the militants were heavy machinery and wondered how it was possible in the presence of so many security personnel. The arms and weapons used by the militants were powerful and deadly ones which should not be used on common citizens. The rockets launched by the militants were long range rockets, he said. The attacks were mostly from Churachandpur district, a hot bed of Kuki militancy. Earlier on Sep 1 and 2 from Kangpokpi district completely dominated by Kuki militants, drones were dropped on civilians at Koutruk village, Imphal West in which a woman was killed and eleven others including three security personnel, a journalist were injured, he claimed. So far there are no reports of any arrest of any militants in the two districts or recovery of any weapons. Meanwhile thousands of people came out in the streets and formed a human chain. They shouted slogans which included, “remove central forces which can’t protect civilians", "dropping bombs using drones is an act of terrorism," we oppose the way the government of India treats the people of Manipur". The protestors said the valley surrounded by the militants is not safe as any place or individual can be targeted. They condemned the inability of the 60000 security personnel posted in the state to take action against the militants. The violence which began on May 3, 2023 has led to the death of around 240 persons and displacement of over 60000 people...////...
