Mumbai, Feb 16 (Reporter) Two women were killed and seven other people, including five women, were injured after a fire broke out in an electrical metre box of a high-rise building in Masjid Bundar area of south Mumbai in early hours of Sunday.
According to sources in Fire Brigade, the fire broke out at 6.11 am at Issaji Street 41/43, Pann Ali Mansion, Vadgadi, near Ram Mandir, Masjid Bundar, which was confined to electrical wiring, electric installations in a common metre box and electrical wiring in the common passage on ground floor of ground-plus-11-storey high-rise building, sending smoke through the building.
It was learnt and noticed that two females who were in the common passage of first floor sustained injury to their hands and legs and also suffocated due to smoke.
Both the females were rushed to government-run J J Hospital, but they were declared dead before admission.
They were identified as Jiya Shaikh Shah (30) and Shabila Khatun Shaikh (42).
The injured are being treated at J J Hospital and G T Hospital, sources said.
The injured persons are Karim Shaikh (20), Adil Raja Shaikh (24) (both men), Nakis Surti (24), Sajiya Alam Shaikh (30), Sabila Khatun Shaikh (42), Shahin Shaikh (22), Sahin Alam Shaikh (22) (the rest all women).
The fire was doused at 6.31 am, sources added...////...
