Mumbai, Feb 18 (Reporter) Podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, facing multiple FIRs (first information report) for his alleged offensive remarks on the YouTube show ‘India’s Got Latent’, will deposit his passport to Thane police station in neighbouring city, following the direction of the Supreme Court which granted him interim protection from arrest on Tuesday, a member of his legal team said here.
Apex court bench of Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh while granting bail directed Allahbadia to deposit his passport at the Thane police station, saying he shall not leave India without the court’s prior nod.
It may be recalled that during an episode of India’s Got Latent, hosted by comedian Samay Raina, Allahbadia made a crude joke that caught attention for being offensive. The remark quickly triggered outrage, leading to FIRs being filed in two states — Maharashtra and Assam.
While the show was intended for a limited audience, clips went viral, intensifying the backlash. As criticism mounted, Allahbadia issued a public apology, admitting that he overstepped.
In response to the controversy, Samay Raina removed all videos of the show to curb further scrutiny...////...
