Nagpur, May 29 (Reporter) In a unique experiment, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari's wife Kanchan has produced organic onions, each weighing about 800 grams to 1 kg, at their Bhakti Farm in Dhapewada area of the city.
Sharing the details himself on Thursday, Gadkari has posted a video of this and has given information about where the seeds were brought from and what technology was used to grow the kitchen staple.
He said these onions are organic and their seeds were brought from the Netherlands.
The 2.5 kg seeds of Seminis company were sown in one acre of land. A nursery was prepared there for 45 days. A mulching paper was put on this bed and bio-organic fertiliser was mixed in this soil. The seeds were watered using a double drip irrigation method.
After this, the grown seedlings were planted elsewhere. About 24,000 onion seedlings were planted. During this period, there was a mortality rate of 7 to 10 percent, which was low for the scale of agriculture.
Finally, the onions were ready, the weight of one onion was 400 grams to 800-1000 grams.
"All kinds of care were taken during this period. Thus, if any farmer wants to do organic farming, we will fully help him," said Gadkari in his video.
Thus, Gadkari has obtained 12 to 13 tons of produce from one acre...////...
