Nagpur, Mar 30 (Reporter) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday visited Deekshabhoomi, where Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar took initiation into Buddhism, here.
He is the first Prime Minister to visit Deekshabhoomi twice. Modi had earlier visited Deekshabhoomi for first time on April 14, 2017, when it was the 126th birth anniversary of Dr Ambedkar. Now, he has come to Deekshabhoomi again after eight years.
At Deekshabhoomi, Modi paid homage to Dr Ambedkar's ashes and offered prayers to Lord Gautam Buddha.
He spent 15 minutes at Deekshabhoomi and is reported to have meditated for a few minutes. Bhadant
Nagarjuna Surai Sasai and other devotees were present at this time.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis as well as BJP workers were also present on this occasion.
In a visitors' notebook, Modi wrote that "I am proud to have had the privilege of visiting Deekshabhoomi in Nagpur, one of the five holy places of Babasaheb Ambedkar. Babasaheb's principles of social equality and justice are strongly felt in the atmosphere of this holy place."
