Baramati, May 26 (Reporter) Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Monday appealed to the citizens, especially those living in low-lying areas and where is possibility of heavy rainfall, to remain careful and take shelter in safe places.
Stay in touch with the local administration and follow their instructions and cooperate, said Pawar.
With the Monsoon entering Maharashtra, including Mumbai, the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy rainfall in Mumbai, Raigad and Ratnagiri districts.
There is a red alert for Sindhudurg district tomorrow, while a yellow alert has been sounded for Palghar.
There is possibility of heavy rain in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Nashik, Satara, Sangli and Kolhapur districts, said Pawar.
The intensity of rain will continue in the ghat areas of Pune, Satara, Sangli and Kolhapur for a few more days, he said.
In view of the heavy rain in the state, the concerned district agencies should remain alert and give top priority to the safety, rescue and relief work of the citizens, he instructed.
Pawar, who arrived in Baramati at midnight yesterday, visited villages in Baramati and Indapur talukas and Pune district since early morning and inspected the situation throughout the day.
The State Minority Development and Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Datta Mama Bharne, newly-elected Director of Chhatrapati Cooperative Sugar Factory Prithviraj Jachak, District Collector Jitendra Dudi, along with several others were present.
While touring the villages in rural Pune, Pawar also reviewed the rainfall, dam status, and local situation in other districts from the State Level Disaster Control and Management Center in the Mantralaya.
Pawar also directed that Panchnamas of damage to agriculture, crops, livestock, and houses be conducted immediately...////...
