Mumbai, Mar 1 (Reporter) A sessions court here has allowed a plea of prosecution to add the name of a senior doctor of B Y L Nair Hospital in Mumbai as an accused in abetment of suicide case of post-graduate medical student Dr Payal Tadvi, a lawyer said here on Saturday.
Senior doctor Dr Yi Ling was the unit head of the gynaecology department when the incident occured on May 22, 2019. Three post-graduate students, who were seniors of Tadvi, are facing charges, including that of abetment of suicide, for allegedly harassing her, leading her to take the extreme step in her hostel room.
Special public prosecutor Pradip Gharat made an application under Section 319 of the Criminal Procedure Code (power to proceed against other persons appearing to be guilty of offence), requesting that Dr Yi Ling, the then unit head be added as an accused.
In his application Gharat told the court that in the complaint filed by Tadvi’s mother Abeda, she had stated that Dr Ling was informed about the harassment being caused to her daughter by the three seniors, but no action was taken and that it was omission on her part that she did not take any steps to stop the alleged harassment.
The court allowed the plea to add Dr Ling as an accused in the case...////...
